AUGUSTA – A series of forums is being held around the state to hear the concerns of Mainers in regard to the proposed merger of the Departments of Behavioral and Developmental Services and Health and Human Services and potential effects on mental retardation services.
These forums are the result of a discussion between Katherine Ainsworth of Gov. John Baldacci’s office, and parents and advocates at a recent meeting of the Developmental Disabilities Caucus. This is a caucus of state legislators concerned with issues related to developmental disabilities. The caucus takes place at 8 a.m. Wednesdays in Room 202 of the Cross State Office building. The public is invited to attend and participate in these meetings.
The forums are as follows:
. Auburn – 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, JFM, Center Street, Auburn.
. Augusta – 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 25, City Council chamber.
. Portland – 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 29, Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodford St.
. Bangor – 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, Bangor BDS Office.
The Maine Parent Federation, at 1-800-870-7746, will assist in answering questions and providing directions.
