Jeremy Newman has graduated from the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Daleville, Ala., and was appointed to the rank of warrant officer one. He is the son of Andria Fitzgerald of Lubec.

Air Force Capt. Kathy Martin has been named company grade officer of 2002 for the 59th Medical Operations Group, and Company Grade Nurse of 2002 for the 759th Medical Operations Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

In addition, she was decorated with the Humanitarian Service Medal for her outstanding nursing support during the Tropical Storm Allison disaster-relief operation in Houston. Martin is scheduled to deploy to Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A 1977 graduate of Shead High School, Martin is the daughter of Pauline Martin, and sister of Gary Nixon, both of Perry.
