Bangor lawyer, wife injured in I-95 crash

CLINTON – A well-known Bangor lawyer and his wife remained hospitalized Monday after a weekend accident in which their car drifted off Interstate 95 into a median ditch.

Malcolm E. Morrell Jr., 76, was in fair condition, and Miriam Morrell, 73, was in serious condition Monday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

From the accident scene, the Bangor couple initially was taken by Fairfield Rescue to the Thayer Unit of MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville. The one-vehicle accident occurred at 3:03 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 140 when the couple was traveling north, Maine State Police Trooper Scott Dalton said Monday.

Witnesses said the 1998 Honda Accord drifted off the left side of the highway into the median, Dalton said. Alcohol was not a factor, he said.

He said the accident remains under investigation. There will be no charges coming from the accident, he said.
