Trenkle picks up All-America honor

Bowdoin College standout guard Lora Trenkle was named a Kodak Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-American at the NCAA Division III awards banquet Thursday and was selected to the D3Hoops.com All-American first team over the weekend.

Trenkle, who helped lead Bowdoin of Brunswick to a 30-1 record and a berth in the national final, led the Polar Bears in scoring (13.9 points a game) and assists (4).

The former George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill star was also named to the NCAA Div. III all-tourney team. She paced Bowdoin in its national semifinal victory over Wisconsin Stevens-Point with 23 points, six rebounds and three assists. She had 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds in Saturday’s 59-53 title loss to Wilmington (Ohio) College.

Trenkle, a Surry native, finished her career at Bowdoin with the most career games (115) and ranks second all-time in points (1,636) and 3-pointers (46).

Bowdoin sophomore Justine Pouravelis of Old Orchard Beach gained an honorable mention on the D3Hoops.com team. She led Bowdoin in field goal percentage (.513), rebounds (6.3), steals (2.5) and blocks (2.5). She set a school record for blocks in a season (77) and already holds the school career record for blocked shots (107).
