BANGOR – The Bangor Emergency Response Team participated in high-angle rescue training at Bangor Auditorium March 8. Team leader and Bangor firefighter Tim Campbell said the team worked in a scenario where a construction worker had fallen and was caught by his fall protection system, but was unconscious and injured.

Although the team worked with a scenario involving a construction worker, many of the same techniques learned in the training could be applied to other situations, Campbell said. Those situations include, for example, an injured hiker on the side of a mountain, an arborist injured while trimming trees or injured power-line workers.

Campbell’s foresight in developing the training program seven years ago was largely responsible for the successful high-angle rescue of a construction worker who fell into a coffer dam while working on the new Bangor-Brewer bridge across the Penobscot. Although Campbell was not directly involved in the rescue, he had set up plans for a possible rescue scenario only two weeks earlier.
