Waterville arts festival seeking participants

WATERVILLE – Waterville Main Street invites artists to participate in the 35th annual Waterville Intown Arts Fest, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 31. Rain date is Sunday, Aug. 1. The entry fee is $40.

The Arts Fest Committee is also looking for an original design to use as the featured artwork on this year’s Arts Fest poster, which will be distributed throughout the state. Although there is no theme, the goal of the poster is to attract attention and people to the event. The winning artist will receive a $100 cash prize.

The entry fee for this contest is $10, and will be waived for any artist registering for the Arts Fest. Poster entries must be postmarked by May 10.

In addition to having an opportunity to display and sell their art on Main Street, participating artists will also be eligible to compete for a number of prizes. This year’s prizes will include Best in Show ($700); the Morning Sentinel Award ($500); first- ($200), second- ($100) and third- ($75) place awards in each of the following categories: Oils & Acrylics, Watercolors, and Other; and a $200 Harry Faust Award for photography. A number of purchase prizes in the amount of $375 will also be offered.

In the interest of bringing artists and the public closer together, participants will be expected to have a substantial display and to be present for the majority of the time that the show is open to the public. Artists may not compete for any of the prizes without having and attending a display of their original artwork in the show outside. This year’s festivities will also include a Youth Exhibit as well as live music in Castonguay Square throughout the day.

Registration and contest entry forms are available online at www.watervillemainstreet.org, or may be requested by calling Waterville Main Street at 680-2055.
