Waterville police apprehended a man Tuesday evening after he allegedly stole three vehicles in Ellsworth and Bangor, taking a joyride in each.
Bangor police Officer Dennis Townsend reported that at about 4 p.m. he went to Wal-Mart, where a man from Glenburn said his truck had been stolen. Store security video showed a GMC pickup truck pulled up next to the man’s Ford Ranger. Two people left the GMC and drove away in the Ford.
Townsend said the GMC was still in the lot. He contacted the owner, an Ellsworth man, who said the truck had just been stolen. Ellsworth police told Townsend that they found another stolen vehicle in the area from which the GMC was stolen.
Waterville police Sgt. Jeff Bearce said a driver called his department Tuesday evening to report a green truck cut him off in traffic. The caller followed the truck until it stopped by a building. The truck’s driver jumped out and ran to a nearby store, where the caller confronted him. Nobody else was in the truck.
Officer Galen Estes arrived soon afterward. The caller led him to the truck, which proved to be the stolen Ford from Bangor. Estes arrested the driver, Jacob Russell, 18, of Bass Harbor. Sgt. Bearce said Russell also admitted stealing the other two vehicles. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Brewer police arrested a man Tuesday night after he allegedly gave somebody else’s prescription pain medication to his girlfriend.
Sgt. Chris Martin said that at about 7:30 p.m. he was assisting probation officers in their search of a Silk Street apartment, when he found two prescription pill bottles. He learned that they belonged to Cara Conlogue, 23, of Brewer. Martin said the bottles, one containing penicillin, the other Vioxx, had the names of other people on them.
Martin said he left a message asking Conlogue to contact him. She met him at the station, and told Martin that she had been feeling sick. After she decided she had a lung infection, Conlogue said, a friend gave her the penicillin. Her boyfriend gave her the prescription Vioxx, a painkiller.
Martin later spoke with Conlogue’s boyfriend, Jayson Cameron, 20, of Brewer. Martin said Cameron admitted that he obtained the Vioxx from a relative and gave them to Conlogue.
Conlogue was summoned for possession of Schedule Z drugs. Cameron was arrested and charged with furnishing Schedule Z drugs and violation of probation.
Martin said others may be charged in connection with this case, pending further investigation.
Bangor police arrested a Brewer man after he allegedly ran a red light Tuesday night.
Officer Ed Mercier reported that just before midnight he went to the intersection of Broadway and State Street, where Sgt. Ed Potter had pulled a truck over after it went through a red light at the intersection. Mercier said the driver, Malcolm Buswell, 52, of Brewer was already out of his truck when he arrived. Buswell was unsteady on his feet, had poor finger dexterity, and smelled of alcohol.
Mercier said Buswell told him he had had a few beers. During the “one leg stand” sobriety test Buswell told Mercier, “I couldn’t do this test sober.”
Buswell was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. A breath test gave a result of 0.23 percent blood alcohol.
