SEARSMONT – Dangerous conditions on the St. George River have prompted the postponement of Saturday’s first race of the 2004 Maine Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization (MaCKRO) schedule.
As of midweek there was still plenty of ice along the six-mile route, so race organizers from the Waldo County YMCA have opted to move the St. George River Canoe Race back a week to Saturday, April 3, as the first half of what is being billed as the “Big Splash Weekend.” The race originally scheduled for April 3, the Passagassawaukeag Stream Race, now will be held on Sunday, April 4.
The St. George event will begin at 11 a.m. on April 3, with registration from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The Passagassawaukeag race will begin at 1 p.m. on April 4 in Waldo, with registration from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
