BREWER – A tractor-trailer dumped half its load of scrap metal when it fell over after the driver attempted to turn too sharply from South Main Street onto an Interstate 395 onramp Thursday afternoon.

Brewer police Cpl. Richard Smith said the accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. The truck driver, Arthur Jordan, 55, of Palermo, suffered a back injury when he released his seatbelt and fell across the inside of the cab, which was resting on its side. Smith said Jordan was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center. He was treated and released, according to EMMC staff.

Smith said the truck’s heavy load apparently shifted during the sharp left turn onto the on-ramp, causing it to tip over. A bucket loader and dump truck assisted in emptying and righting the truck, which suffered bent wheels and other damage.

Smith said the ramp was blocked for about an hour.
