HAMDEN, Conn. – Brittany Cheney hit two home runs and had three RBIs Friday to pace the University of Maine Black Bears to a 7-0 softball victory over Quinipiac.

Sara Asadoorian started the fifth inning off with a double, then Cheney and Jess Brady belted back-to-back home runs for the 9-11 Bears. Cheney added a leadoff homer in the seventh.

Jenna Merchant pitched a two-hitter for Maine.

Nicole Otten and Jenna Henry each singled for Quinnipiac, now 3-10.

At Clearwater, Fla., junior Mike Flanagan hit a two-run triple and scored to highlight a four-run, first-inning outburst as the Union College Dutchmen defeated the University of Southern Maine of Gorham.

Ben McGuire kept the Huskies’ bats quiet through six innings, but USM rallied for four runs in the seventh to close the gap to 7-4.

Ryan Bourque got the Huskies on the board with an RBI single and Drew Palmer had a two-out, RBI single. Senior Pat McCarthy smacked a two-run single for Southern Maine.
