DEXTER – The Easter Bunny and Monty Moose will welcome children and their chaperones to Dexter’s first Easter Hat Parade Contest on April 10.
The Dexter Regional Development Corp., Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union and the Dexter Methodist Church are working together to bring Dexter area children a fun morning celebrating Easter.
The event will start at 9 a.m. with a free breakfast for chaperoned children up to 12 years old at Dexter Methodist Church. Adults eat by donation.
At 9:30 a.m., colorful Easter hats will be created by the children, with the help of volunteers. Hats and decorations will be provided, but donations of silk flowers, tulle, paper streamers and pipe cleaners would be welcome.
Pastor Lois Field and the church will hold the annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. The younger children will seek eggs hidden inside the church and the older children will search for eggs outside, weather permitting. There are candies in each egg and a quarter will be given for every egg found. The child in the two age categories who finds the most eggs will win a silver dollar.
At 10:30 a.m., the children will don the Easter hats they made and parade down the street to the new Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union office, where the hats will be judged. The first, second and third place winners in the age groups of 0-7 and 8-12 will receive a $50, $30 and $20 Monty Moose savings account, respectively.
All children who participate will receive a colorful Easter bank from the credit union.
