In the letter, “Making wrong choices” (BDN, March 22), Linda Scott of Bangor wrote about the lack of compassion in Gov. Baldacci’s budget. Her conclusion, stated in the form of a question, was revealing. It said, “Has it gotten to the point where we are choosing animals over human beings?”

It has long since been that animals are chosen over human beings. That point was reached when abortion was made legal in Roe v. Wade in 1973. Ever since then the same loud minority that pushed for the legal killing of unborn children has pushed for greater “rights” for animals, ignoring the Creator-mandated position of mankind over animalkind.

It is good to take care of the Earth, but it is even better to take care of its human citizens.
