Russian school offers children’s art classes

BANGOR – Downeast Russian School in Bangor will offer art classes for children ages 3-10 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 7-May 4, at Bangor Theological Seminary, Room 6, with artist and educator Leila Jodrey of Augusta, who holds several art awards. The cost for the course is $80 per child.

Jodrey worked as an artist and designer for several commercial companies and launched her own art studio, where she taught drawing and sculpture to children for six years before coming to the United States from Russia.

Jodrey will teach professional art skills in drawing and sculpture – how to position the paper, develop a composition, to mix and apply colors, and how to draw from life and imagination.

Jodrey’s 8-year-old daughter Jenya Sakayeva-Jodrey is a U.S. National Prize winner. Jenya’s artwork is currently on exhibition in Children’s Room of Bangor Public Library.

An art workshop for children with Jodrey and Jenya will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Bangor Public Library in the Children’s Room. There is no cost for the workshop.

To register for the art classes, e-mail natabra@yahoo.com, call 262-9727 or visit www.downeastrussianschool.wtcsites.com.
