ST. ALBANS – Four local fire departments fought in vain to save a St. Albans firefighter’s house after it caught fire Friday morning.
St. Albans Fire Chief Jamie Cooper said that at about 8 a.m. a passer-by reported that a house on Grant Road was burning. Fire crews from Hartland, Corinna and Pittsfield assisted St. Albans firefighters in fighting what proved to be a “very stubborn fire,” Cooper said.
No one was injured, but firefighter Jason Morris, his wife and their two children lost their home. Morris had been with the department for about a month, Cooper said.
The fire is believed to have started in the cellar, near the furnace.
