G-P to raise prices because of higher costs

ATLANTA – Georgia-Pacific Corp. plans to raise prices on its consumer paper products this summer to offset rising costs.

The Atlanta-based paper- and building-products company, which operates a mill in Old Town, Maine, expects to raise prices by an average of 6 percent to 9 percent on its towels, tissues and napkins. Its brands include Quilted Northern toilet paper and Brawny paper towels.

Georgia-Pacific also will boost prices 4 percent to 6 percent on its Dixie cups, plates and cutlery.

The price increases are effective July 1.

A Georgia-Pacific spokesperson said the firm is experiencing higher costs for all items, including raw materials and energy.

At the close of New York Stock Exchange trading Friday, Georgia-Pacific shares had risen to $34.15, up 15 cents, or 0.44 percent.
