MILO – A local man found Friday burning what is believed to be the remains of an infant outside of his home has been arrested and charged with the abuse of a corpse.
Ralph Disley, 46, was taken to Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft where he posted bail of $200 and was released Friday afternoon.
Disley, who has lived on Lyford Road for several years, is the owner of Little Bear Canoe Co. People familiar with the family say Disley lived with his wife, Kelly, and two daughters.
Police received a call Friday from a resident who thought that the remains of an infant were on Disley’s property, according to Stephen McCausland, Maine public safety spokesman.
When Maine State Police detectives arrived in late morning to follow up on the tip, they allegedly found Disley burning what appeared to be the remains of an infant outside on his property, McCausland said.
Police quickly secured the home and property and arrested Disley.
McCausland said detectives and the state medical examiner will return to the location this morning to recover the remains.
Police do not know the age of the infant. No other details of the incident were known Friday.
