HOULTON – Dean Clukey of Houlton has announced that he is a Republican candidate for the Maine State Senate representing District 34, which comprises 39 municipalities in Aroostook County.

Issues that concern Clukey include giving northern Maine residents an opportunity for economic success, fighting to curb high taxation, and addressing regulations that drive employers out of Maine.

Clukey is a U.S. Air Force veteran and former Maine State Police captain. He served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1993 to 1998 representing Houlton, Hodgdon and Cary.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and has taken advanced courses at Northwestern University, Babson College and the University of New Hampshire.

While in the State Police, Clukey served as a commander for Troop F in Houlton, personnel director for the Department of Public Safety and northern field forces commander.

After retiring from there, he served as director of engineering for Ward Log Homes and administrator of the Aroostook County Correctional Facility prior to being elected to the Legislature.

Clukey lives in Houlton with his wife, Donna. They have three adult children and eight grandchildren.
