In the world of make believe we could just hit the rewind button and Sept. 11, 2001 never happened. This is not a world of make believe and Sept. 11 did happen. As the words of a popular song say, “Do you remember how you felt that day with our nation under fire and our people blown away?” I remember. You should be outraged at that, not to our response to that.
In World War II, when our ships were blown up at Pearl Harbor, every man, woman and child stood shoulder to shoulder in support of our country. This time our homeland and Pentagon were attacked. That is cause for genuine outrage.
It’s attitudes like these that planted the seed that created the abuse of our veterans after Vietnam. To depict our military as anyone’s private army or anyone’s toy soldiers does not ease the grief, pain or suffering of our military spouses, moms, dads, children or communities.
The decision to go to war was not made lightly. It was not made for personal gain. It was not made for political satisfaction. It was made to defend America against terrorist aggression.
The bombs that hit Spain recently could well have been here. Yet some had their heads up and their eyes open. God bless all those people. God bless America.
