I would like to apologize for the incident photographed on the front page of the April 2 Bangor Daily News. The desecration of the flag of Norway is unconscionable. The anger and frustration expressed by this action illustrate the pain of uncertainty employees have felt since Fjord Seafood, based in Oslo, decided to sell the company last October.

Taking it out on the Norwegians is an unfortunate allocation of these emotions. Fjord Seafood had little or no control over the economic, political, legal, regulatory and natural forces that caused Fjord to sell.

Since my tenure with the company Fjord has supported every effort to lead the industry in the science, technology and compliance of Atlantic Salmon of Maine, and has provided excellent jobs for hundreds of Down East families, I am hopeful that the buyer, Cooke Aquaculture, will do the same.

By the way, the flag identified in the caption as “resembling a Texas flag” is the flag of Chile. I apologize to the people of that country also.
