ORONO – The evening of March 30 at the Maine Center for the Arts was a special one. Three bands performed to raise money for The Acadia Hospital youth services. More than $18,000 cash and in-kind donations was raised.
The Bands were Reeds Brook Middle School Band, under the direction of Patrick Michaud; the Orono High School Band, directed by Stephen Hodgdon; and the University of Maine Concert Band, led by Christopher White. All three bands performed together at the end of the concert.
Guest conductor Robert Sheldon, a nationally known conductor and composer, conducted a piece of his own music with each band. The University of Maine Cultural Affairs department provided part of the funding to bring Sheldon to Maine for the event.
Businesses that sponsored the concert were Affiliated Healthcare Systems, Bangor Daily News, WVII-TV ABC 7, WKIT-WZON-WDME, Bangor Savings Bank, Georgia-Pacific Corp., Oakhurst Dairy, Town and County Realtors, The Advertising Specialists of Maine, Bangor Letter and Color Copy Center, Best Western Black Bear Inn, Best Western White House Inn, Brewer Automotive Components, Canteen Service Company, Creative Print Services, Curtis and Miller Law Office, Foster Imaging, Guiness and Portcelli’s, H.E. Sargent Inc., Snowman Printing, Tapley Pools and the University Inn.
