Bangor police summoned a man early Wednesday after he allegedly took a woman’s Social Security check.

Officer Kerry Libby reported that at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday a woman told her that Eldon Morrow, 48, a transient, had stayed at her Fifth Street apartment a few nights before. When Morrow left the next morning, the woman noticed her $364 check was missing.

The woman told Libby that when she encountered Morrow later, he admitted taking the check and said he would pay it back. He hadn’t tried to pay it back by Tuesday evening.

Libby said that she was on State Street at about 2 a.m. Wednesday when she saw Morrow near a convenience store. She summoned him for theft.

A Bangor man was charged with theft Tuesday after he allegedly stole a Brewer woman’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefit card.

Brewer police Sgt. Chris Martin said that on Monday a woman reported her electronic benefit transfer card had been missing since Saturday. She said she was with Harvey Burgess, 34, of Bangor, that day.

On Tuesday the woman told Martin that Burgess had admitted stealing her card. Burgess also gave back the $240 he withdrew at an ATM using the card.

Martin said he later spoke with Burgess, who said he knew the PIN for the card because he watched the woman use it. Burgess was charged with theft.

An Old Town man was summoned Tuesday evening after another driver passing him on the right struck his car.

Officer Bobby Pelletier reported that at about 7 p.m. Shaun Newell, 21, of Old Town was driving south on Main Street and signaled a right turn into his driveway. Another driver tried to pass Newell’s truck on the right, driving up onto the sidewalk to do so. The collision caused about $2,500 in damage to the two vehicles.

Pelletier said Newell’s license had been suspended. Newell was charged with operating after suspension.
