Speedway 95 show slated for Airport Mall

The annual Speedway 95 Stock Car Show at the Airport Mall is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10.

Cars from the track’s Saturday night divisions will be on display as well as cars from the Wacky Wednesday programs. Visitors to the show will be able to vote for their favorite cars in a variety of categories, and prizes will be awarded to the winning drivers and crews at the close of the show on Saturday night. There also will be an autograph session with many of the Speedway 95 drivers on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The mall show is the prelude to the 2004 racing season at Speedway 95 that begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25 with a 150-lap Pro All Stars Series event.

The season’s kickoff show will include appearances by the PASS Modified division that will accompany the PASS tour to certain events during the 2004 season, and the Allison Legacy Racing Series, which features three-quarter scale NEXTEL Cup replicas powered by 2,000cc Mazda four-cylinder engines.

Cars from the speedway’s own Super Street and Sport-Four divisions also will complement the program.

The PASS Tour features many of the top Pro Stock drivers from Maine, New England and the Canadian Maritimes. Past champions Ben Rowe of Turner and Sam Sessions of South Paris have both won PASS events at the Hermon oval, and are looking forward to adding another win at Speedway 95 to their credentials.

Speedway 95’s regular six-division programs begin the racing season at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2. The day’s program will be highlighted by a 35-lap Strictly Street Series event, and an appearance by the Quirk half-scale NEXTEL Cup cars. The annual pretty car contest will precede the show at 1:30 p.m.

A practice day for all divisions will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 24.
