STANDISH – Wednesday, Annette Caswell singled in Wendy Bonner with the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning Thursday as Colby edged host St. Joseph’s 2-1 in women’s softball.
Essie Widlanski came in on a wild pitch to tie the score in the top of the seventh for Colby of Waterville. Lindsey Toomey pitched the final two innings to earn the win.

USM sweeps St. Joe’s
At Gorham, the Southern Maine Huskies swept away St. Joseph’s of Standish, 11-0 in the first game and 6-2 in the second.
In the opener, USM scored all 11 of their runs in the third inning, sending 15 batters to the plate.
Megan Woodcock led the charge with a two-run triple and Renee Heath notched a two-run double. Katie Mainville tossed a one-hitter.
Katie Dowling singled for the Monks’ lone hit.
In the nightcap, the Huskies broke a 2-1 game open with four runs in the third.
Darci Holland singled and scored on a two-run double by Christen Lachappelle, who scored on a double by Natasha Jackson.

Greg Stacy hit an RBI double and Joe McGhee an RBI single to key the rally for Gorham-based USM. Mike Richard added a two-run triple.
