Hampden police arrested a Lincoln man on a federal warrant when he returned to a gas station to pay his tab Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Scott Webber said that at about 6 p.m. Thursday, Kevin Forrest, 33, of Lincoln fueled his vehicle at the Big Apple store on Main Road North, then discovered he didn’t have the means to pay for it.
The store contacted the police, Webber said, and it was arranged that Forrest would return Friday afternoon to pay for the gas.
In the meantime police discovered that Forrest was wanted by the U.S. Marshal Service for making false statements while acquiring a firearm. When Forrest arrived at the store at about 1 p.m. Friday, he was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
Forrest has since made bail, Webber said.
Half a dozen baseball bats disappeared from a Brewer apartment sometime after their owner moved out.
At about 1 p.m. Friday, Brewer police Sgt. Arden Jones spoke with a woman who said she left six expensive bats, ranging in value from $200 to $350, in a South Main Street apartment when she moved out about two weeks ago. When she returned to retrieve them, the bats were gone.
Jones said there are no suspects yet in this case.

Bangor police Officer Kerry Libby reported that at about 4 p.m. she was called to the Bangor Mall store for a theft complaint. She arrived to find a security worker outside with a man who was sitting in a vehicle.
The worker said he was watching on a surveillance camera as Michael Coslett, 18, of Hartland took the tags off a baseball cap and tried to leave the store with it. When the worker tried to direct Coslett to the office, he said, Coslett said he didn’t have to go anywhere. Coslett grew combative, the worker said, and dragged the security worker through the parking lot, tearing his jeans and injuring his finger.
Coslett, who had scratches on his body, told Libby it was a misunderstanding. He said he forgot to pay for the hat and handed it to the worker when he asked for it back. Coslett said the worker used excessive force.
Libby summoned Coslett for theft.
Orono police charged a New Jersey man with operating under the influence early Friday.
Sgt. Josh Ewing said that at about 1:40 a.m. he was on Pine Street when he saw a Chevrolet Suburban ahead of him drive close to a pedestrian crossing the road without making any attempt to slow down. Ewing said the Suburban was moving at about 45 mph in the 25 mph zone.
Ewing turned on his blue lights and spoke with the driver, Derek Martinez, 22, of New Jersey, after he pulled into his Cedar Street driveway.
Martinez had glassy eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, Ewing said. He admitted having two beers.
Ewing charged Martinez with OUI and operating after suspension.
