Man charged in assault on wife

A Bangor man was charged with assaulting his wife Friday after learning that she was spending time at another man’s apartment.

Bangor Officer Douglas Moore responded to a call from a Pushaw Road residence where he encountered the 29-year-old wife of David Stanevicz, 33.

The woman told Moore that she and her husband were separated and that while she was visiting a male friend at an apartment on Hammond Street, David arrived and demanded she go home with him. Moore’s report said Stanevicz and the other man, Eric Seguin, 23, then got into an altercation that resulted in Stanevicz punching Seguin several times in the face and Seguin hitting Stanevicz with a baseball bat.

Stanevicz’s wife told Moore that her husband then grabbed her by the arm and led her from Seguin’s apartment. She also said Stanevicz accused her of having an affair and called her names in front of the couple’s young daughter, who was in Stanevicz’s car as they drove back to Pushaw Road.

Stanevicz had left the residence when Moore arrived but the officer felt he had probable cause for arrest and contacted Officer Brad Hanson to help track down Stanevicz, the report said. Hanson found him and placed him under arrest for assault on his wife.

Moore also visited the Hammond Street apartment and spoke with Seguin. The man said he didn’t wish to press charges against Stanevicz, but Moore added to Stanevicz’s bail conditions that he was not allowed to have contact with Seguin.

A Bangor man was issued a summons for theft after he was caught taking cobblestones from a construction site across from Shaw’s on Main Street.

Bangor Police Officer James Dearing responded to a complaint from someone at the fire department who saw a man loading stones into his car from an area off Front Street that was labeled “road closed.”

Dearing approached the man, Michael O’Loughlin, 40, who had loaded about 20 stones into the trunk of his car, Dearing’s report said. O’Loughlin told Dearing he thought the stones were considered waste since they were next to piles of discarded building materials.

O’Loughlin admitted he had been coming to the site for several days and was using the stones to make small fences at his home, Dearing’s report said. O’Loughlin said he had taken about 300 stones total but believed he was doing no wrong.

O’Loughlin even volunteered to bring all the stones back, Dearing’s report said, but the officer contacted Bangor public works Director Arthur Stockus, who told the officer he wished to file charges of theft against O’Loughlin. Dearing’s report estimated the value of the stones at $2 each.

A Bangor woman was charged with assault Saturday after she turned herself in to Brewer police.

Brewer Cpl. David Lord said Teressa Witham, 22, was shopping at Wal-Mart when she saw her husband, David, 32, walk into the store with another 22-year-old woman. David and Teressa are separated, Lord said, but Teressa became jealous and confronted the woman, punching her in the face.

David Witham separated them and the three agreed to go to the Brewer police station, Lord said, where Teressa confessed to punching the woman. She was issued a summons for assault.

A Brewer woman was arrested Saturday night after Veazie police pulled her over for speeding and discovered she was an habitual offender.

Ronda Curtis, 32, was traveling 39 mph in a 25 mph stretch of Chase Road when Veazie Officer T.J. Warner stopped her shortly before 10 p.m.

Warner said he asked Curtis for her license, insurance and registration and she could only produce registration. Warner said he ran her information and found she had nine previous suspensions. Warner also said he found her license in the car after she told him she didn’t have it with her.

Warner placed her under arrest, and Curtis faces charges of operating after suspension, possession of a suspended license, failure to provide insurance and speeding.
