Regan helps St. Joe’s split with Thomas

WATERVILLE – Senior Dee Regan scattered seven hits while giving up two runs to help St. Joseph’s edge Thomas 3-2 in the second game to salvage a doubleheader split in softball action Monday. Thomas defeated St. Joe’s of Standish in the first game 9-8.

In the second game, Sarah Martin singled twice for St. Joe’s and Deborah Bain and Leanne Morton each added a single and an RBI.

Kayla Beaudoin doubled and drove in a run for Thomas and Brindi Riley added a double.

In the first game, Mistie Bickford singled twice and had two RBIs to pace Thomas. Heather Johnson and Jasmine Carey each chipped in with two singles.

Bain tripled, singled twice and had three RBIs for St. Joe’s while Amanda Roy added a triple, single and three RBIs.

USM wins one, ties another

At Beverly, Mass., sophomore pitcher Katie Mainville allowed just two hits and no earned runs as the Huskies came from behind in the late innings to post a 3-1 victory. The second game was halted at 4-4 because of darkness and officials from both schools will announce a decision on whether the game will be resumed or end in a tie.

In the first game, Darci Holland stroked a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning to put Southern Maine up 2-1. The Huskies added insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Christen Lachappelle.

In the second game, Kristen Tong started USM off with a two-run double. Endicott rallied with a two-run double by Elyse Colbey. In the fourth, Southern Maine went ahead again with singles from Angela Cote and Lachappelle. But Megan Young, Laura Mangini and Laura Schack all singled for two more runs, tying the game.

WPI 8, St. Joseph’s 1

At Worcester, Mass., T.J. McLaughlin hit a home run and singled to lead Worcester Polytechnic by St. Joseph’s of Standish.

Nick Angelini also drove in three runs for WPI.

For the Monks, Matt Prunier doubled in the fourth to bring in St. Joseph’s only run.
