Rockland planners OK inn entrance changes

ROCKLAND – The Rockland Planning Commission has approved a $15,000 change to the Trade Winds Motor Inn entrance, which will be a lighthouse design.

The entrance from the Park Drive side of the building, which faces the waterfront, will remain in the same location, code enforcement officer John Root reported Tuesday, but the doorway will be framed with a 35-foot lighthouse.

At last week’s meeting, the commission also considered a request from Paul Marion of Union to have a portable hot dog concession stand at the new Home Depot property on Camden Street.

Street Eats Ltd. will have a 60-square-foot steel wagon near the entrance to the home improvement retail center.

The commission decided the use was a minor change and authorized the code officer to issue a permit without full review by the commission. The motion did require that future similar requests also come before the commission for initial review, he said.

At a future meeting, the panel will consider a site plan review application from Bench Dogs for a woodworking shop and residential property at 711 Main St. The owners, Brooks Crane and her husband Weber Roberts lease space on Winter Street for their shop. Bench Dogs makes custom cabinets and furniture.

The proposed construction project is valued at $500,000 for a 4,800-square-foot building. A date for the commission meeting had not been set.
