I would like to clarify some information in the story, “UMPI quiet about university proposal” (BDN, April 10-11). One of the reasons we have heard little reaction to the University of Maine System’s draft strategic plan on our campus is that our faculty and students were on spring break last week.

Also, I am quoted as saying “there has been nothing going on that I know of.” This was in response to a question concerning reports of protests and votes of no confidence from the Machias and Fort Kent campuses. While I have heard nothing along those lines on the Presque Isle campus, I can assure you the draft plan has been the topic of many conversations, and will get an even more thorough review during three campus meetings this week, now that our faculty and students are back.

I know that our campus community is concerned but ready to engage in a thoughtful discussion about the plan and its ramifications on the future of the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
