Man accused of changing price tag at Marden’s

Brewer police charged a Hampden man with theft after he allegedly swapped the price tag on a light fixture Thursday afternoon at Marden’s.

Officer Jeremy Upham reported that at 2:20 p.m. he went to Marden’s on Wilson Street. An employee told Upham he saw Richard Smith, 25, of Hampden remove the $17.99 tag from a light fixture and put a $7.99 tag on it.

Upham said that when Smith was charged with theft by deception, he asked, “I’m going to have a record for three dollars?”

Bangor police charged a woman with theft after she allegedly tried to steal pregnancy tests Thursday morning.

Officer Myron Warner reported that at about 11 a.m. he went to Rite Aid on Union Street where the manager had a shoplifter in custody.

The manager told Warner that she saw Patrisha Cloukey, 22, of Bangor break open a package containing three pregnancy tests and stuff the tests into her jacket.

Warner said Cloukey told him she had made a stupid mistake.

Cloukey was summoned for theft.

The tests cost $11.85.

An intoxicated woman allegedly drove a truck through a yield sign Wednesday night in Orono, causing $2,000 damage to another car.

Orono police Officer Casey Miller said that at about 9 p.m. she went to the accident scene and spoke with Linda Haines, 36, of Millinocket.

Haines apparently drove from Forest Avenue onto Main Street without yielding right of way to a southbound car. The truck Haines was driving was not damaged, Miller said.

Miller said Haines was unsteady on her feet, smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking two beers. After performing poorly on sobriety tests, Haines was taken to the station, where a breath test gave a result of 0.23 percent blood alcohol. Miller took Haines to Penobscot County Jail.
