Park road to be closed to motor vehicle traffic

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK – Several sections of the Park Loop Road will be closed to motor vehicles from 7 p.m. Saturday, April 24, to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 25, so the public can enjoy the road on foot or bike without motor vehicle traffic.

In-line skates and skateboards will not be allowed.

The following sections of the Park Loop Road will be closed to motor vehicles and available for nonmotorized travel:

. The portion of road from Hulls Cove Visitor Center to the park Entrance Station just north of Sand Beach.

. From the Hulls Cove Visitor Center to Jordan Pond, including the Cadillac Summit Road.

. The section of the Park Loop Road between Otter Cliff and the Stanley Brook entrance road.

Motor vehicles will be allowed on the winter driving routes, including Ocean Drive between Schooner Head Overlook and Otter Cliff Road, and Jordan Pond Road to Jordan Pond, as far as the overflow parking lot.

Bicyclists must observe the one-way road signs where motor vehicles are allowed. Two-way travel is allowed on sections closed to motor vehicles. Pedestrians and bicyclists should stay to the right and give a clear warning before passing on the left. Pets must be leashed at all times, and hiking trails are off-limits to bicycles. Bicyclists should wear helmets and carry water.

Park information, restrooms and water will be available at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional restrooms will be available at Sieur de Monts Spring, Fabbri picnic area, Sand Beach, Jordan Pond and Bubble Pond.
