Sandelin wins Penrose

University of Minnesota-Duluth coach Scott Sandelin, who led the Bulldogs to their first Frozen Four in 19 years, was named the recipient of the Spencer Penrose Award given to the nation’s top Division I men’s ice hockey coach.

UMD went 28-13-4 including a season-ending 5-3 loss to eventual national champ Denver in their Frozen Four semifinal.

UMaine coach Tim Whitehead, who won the award in 2002, was one of 10 finalists.
