Braves sweep Owls Sunday, take 3 of 4 on weekend

BANGOR – Aaron Brideau tossed a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and one walk as the Husson College baseball team earned a 10-0 win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle in the first game of a doubleheader. The Braves won the second game by the same score and split two games with Becker College Saturday, losing the opener 10-7 and taking the nightcap 9-1.

In Sunday’s first game, Justin Spencer keyed the offense with two triples, a single and four runs scored for the hosts. Jason Ferguson singled three times, tripled and knocked in a run while Kyle Mathieu had two doubles and a single.

In the second game, Chris McInnis got the shutout victory, fanning six, walking two and scattering just three hits for Husson.

Ferguson launched a two-run single and Bill Kane a two-run double to power the Braves. Mathieu added an RBI single and Pat Ouellette singled twice and drove in three.

In Saturday’s second game, Rob Webber tossed a one-run five-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk as Husson came back to take game two after losing the first.

Spencer singled four times and scored three runs for the hosts, while Folsom and Mathieu rapped an RBI single each.

In Saturday’s first game, Bryan Eldridge’s RBI single in the top of the eighth gave the Hawks the winning edge.

Pat Degroseiliers added an RBI double and Michael Wekwerth an RBI single in the inning for the winners.

Mathieu singled twice and knocked in two runs for the Braves. Spencer added a triple and Ferguson two singles.

St. Joseph’s, Keene State split

At Standish Sunday, Matt Prunier doubled twice and added a single to power the Monks to a 5-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader against the Owls. Keene State took the first game 5-4.

In the first game, Bill Green singled and tallied two RBIs for the Owls. Justin Hickman doubled. Ben Muniz singled and drove in two runs for the Monks.

In the second game, Muniz added a solo home run and a single, while Mark Laviolette singled twice. Keene State’s Matt Orszulak singled and added two RBIs.

At Standish Saturday, Marc Exahopolous hit a home run and two singles to drive in three runs and help lead Suffolk University past the Monks.

Tamayo Manzanillo had a homer and a single with four RBIs for Suffolk.

Mark Laviolette hit a homerun and a single to drive in three runs for the Monks. Andy Exley also had a homer and a single with two RBIs and Nate Leeman singled and doubled.

At Brunswick Saturday, pinch-hitter Andrew Workman hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and give Bowdoin College the win in the first game. Tufts University won the second game 7-6 in 11 innings.

In the first game, Tom McMahon hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game for Bowdoin.

Matt Clement had a pair of singles for Tufts.

In the second game, Bryan McDavitt scored the game-winning run on an error in the eleventh inning for Tufts.

Tom McMahon hit a home run to knock in two runs for Bowdoin and Ricky Leclerc hit a solo home run.

Becker sweeps UMF

At Farmington Sunday, Becker College earned a sweep over the Beavers, 15-9 in the opener and 14-8 in the nightcap.

In the first game, David Harbec homered and singled, driving in three runs for the Hawks.

Zach Reed knocked a home run of his own and singled, knocking in two runs for the Beavers. John Rutkiewicz singled twice and drove in three runs.

In the second game, Devin Caron went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and two singles, totaling six RBIs to help Becker earn the sweep.

Rutkiewicz doubled, singled and knocked in two for UMF. Kris Garrow had a double, single with an RBI and Jeff Casavant added an RBI single.

Castleton, UM-Farmington split

At Farmington Saturday, Ray Doubleday allowed just one run, five hits, and no walks while striking out eight to help lead the Beavers to the 10-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader. Castleton State took the opener 8-5.

In the first game, Adam Massey had three singles and two RBIs for Castleton State.

Zachary Reed hit a home run and a single to drive in a pair of runs for UM-Farmington and Keith LeBlanc had two singles.

In the second game, John Rutkiewicz hit a home run and two singles to knock in four for UM-Farmington and Peter McLaughlin had a homer and a single with four RBIs. Tyler Jellison had a double and three singles.

Phillips hit a solo home run in the first inning for Castleton State.

Trinity sweeps Colby

At Waterville Saturday, Billy Wise had a home run and two singles to help lead Trinity College to the 5-2 win over Colby College in the opener. Trinity also took the second game 12-2.

In the first game, Mark Tremblay earned the win, scattering six hits.

Eric Roy doubled and singled for Colby and Tom Salemy also doubled.

In the second game, Jeff Natale had a double and three singles for Trinity.

Tyler Hales hit a pair of singles for the Mules.

USM sweeps Keene State

At Gorham Saturday, Marc Cahill pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener for the University of Southern Maine. He gave up just two walks and struck out a career-high 13 to give the Huskies the 17-0 win. Southern Maine also won the nightcap 5-0.

In the first game, Joe McGhee homered and doubled to knock in three runs for the Huskies and Brandon Brewer had a home run and two singles. Adam Lemieux tripled with three RBIs. Brian Marshall hit a trio of singles and Ryan Bourque had a double and two singles.

In the second game, Tip Fairfield also pitched a three-hit shutout for the Huskies. He gave up no walks and struck out 11. Ryan Bourque doubled to drive in a run as Lemieux and Brewer each had three singles.

Matt Beam had a single for Keene State.
