Lee fashions two no-hitters, UMPI sweeps four-game series

OLD TOWN -Danielle Lee pitched no-hitters on Saturday and Sunday and registered a combined 27 strikeouts without a walk to propel the University of Maine-Presque Isle to a four-game weekend sweep of the College of St. Joseph (Vt.).

The Owls won Saturday’s games 27-0 and 19-0, then took Sunday’s games 23-0 and 21-1.

In Saturday’s first game, Lee struck out 11 of 16 batters in a perfect game for UMPI. Morgan Anderson doubled and singled to drive in two runs.

In Saturday’s second game, Lee had a double, two singles, and three RBIs for UMPI. Sarah Nason hit three singles and drove in two run and Liz Sutherland hit a double and two singles with two RBIs.

Molly Neider, Lindsey Senecal, Amy Riggsby, and Heather Cagney each singled for the College of St. Joseph.

In Sunday’s opener, Lee struck out all 16 batters she faced and hit a pair of two-run homers for the Owls. Monique Daniel doubled and singled to knock in four runs and Rachel Bird had two singles with two RBIs.

In Sunday’s second game, Daniel hit a double and two singles with two RBIs for UMPI and Valerie Lenentine hit two singles with three RBIs. Lanie Roy and Nason each had two singles with three RBIs.

Danielle Dolinski singled for the College of St. Joseph.

Elms sweeps Husson

At Bangor Sunday, Tina Fontaine singled twice and knocked in two runs to lead Elms College to a 4-0 win in the first game. Elms took the second game 4-1.

In the first game, Allison Renaud racked up three hits for Elms. Kristi Guzzo gave up just four hits and struck out nine.

Carolyn McAvoy, Wendy Butler, Deanna Maxim and Nicole Munroe singled for Husson.

In the second game, Jennifer LeDoux had a hit and scored twice for Elms.

Carmen Ballard singled twice for Husson.

Husson sweeps Becker

At Bangor Saturday, Caroline McAvoy went 5-for-6 in two games as the Braves earned a sweep, winning the opener 10-9 and the nightcap 5-1.

In the first game, McAvoy had three hits, while Kelly McHatten and Sara Agouab each chipped in with two RBIs. Mariah Seames and Rebecca Marks each had two hits for Becker.

In the second game, Husson’s Wendy Butler knocked in three runs on one hit. McAvoy and Stacey Wright each had two hits. Brooke Robichaud led Becker with two hits.

In the first game, Jasmine Carey had three singles and scored twice for Thomas and Jen Couture hit two singles and knocked in two runs.

Brigette Olson hit three singles and drove in a run for Castleton State.

In the second game, Jennifer Gadouas had a home run and four RBIs for Castleton.

At Castine Sunday, Rebecca Marks pitched a three-hitter and had three hits of her own, as the Hawks earned an 8-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader. Becker took the second game 13-8.

In the first game, Marks struck out six and walked three, and added a double and two singles. Mariah Seames drove in two runs on two singles. Janice Spear paced the Mariners with a double, a single and an RBI.

In the second game, Seames and Jennifer Randall combined for six RBIs and the Hawks took advantage of five MMA errors. Spear doubled and singled twice. Jess Clifford drove in three runs on a double and a single.

Elms takes two from MMA

At Castine Saturday, Kristi Guzzo pitched two complete games as Elms won 7-2 in the first game and took an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.

In the first game, Guzzo struck out seven, walked one and allowed two hits. Kristin Duarte doubled twice for the Blazers. Jackie McKenney doubled and added an RBI for the Mariners.

In the second game, Guzzo fanned five, walked one and gave up three hits. Jen LeDoux singled, doubled, tripled and drove in a run. Janice Spear, McKenney and Natasha Scott each singled for MMA.

At Waterville Sunday, Lauren Olmsted fired a three-hit shutout to lift the White Mules to a 5-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader. The Monks took the second game 5-4.

In the first game, Olmsted struck out five, walked two and hit a two-run single in the third. Helene Liaci doubled for St. Joseph’s of Standish.

In the second game, Kahler Dowling hit a two-run double and Sarah Martin added an RBI single as the Monks scored five runs in the seventh inning. Colby’s Kara Fagan doubled.

At Waterville Saturday, Caroline Grieco threw a no-hitter as the Jumbos earned a 1-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader. Tufts won the first game 4-2.

In the first game, Deana Davidian hit a two-run single in the eighth to lift Tufts. Emily Allen doubled for the Mules.

In the second game, Grieco allowed two baserunners, a hit batter and an error. Sarah Taylor had an RBI single for Tufts.

At Farmington Sunday, Kristi Chochin tripled and singled to drive in three runs and lead the University of Maine-Farmington to 6-2 win in the first game. Johnson State won the second game 1-0.

In the first game, Mary Berry had three singles and an RBI for UM-Farmington. Holly Tripp and Lauren Stacey each had two singles.

Danielle Cote had a pair of singles for Johnson State.

In the second game, Nicole Cote had a double and scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning off of a Amber Gibbs single.

Castleton State sweeps UMF

At Farmington Saturday, the Spartans pounded out 16 hits en route to 7-3 and 4-1 wins in the doubleheader.

In the first game, Spartans Lisa Hasch and Jennifer Gadouas each singled twice and drove in a run. Shea Strout knocked in two runs on two singles for the Beavers.

In the second game, Hasch twirled a two-hitter, singled and drove in two runs. Holly Tripp singled with an RBI.

Bowdoin beats St. Joseph’s twice

At Brunswick Saturday, pitchers Erin Hanley and Emily Nelson combined to allow just three hits as the Polar Bears swept a doubleheader with 7-0 and 6-0 wins.

In the first game, Hanley gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight. Danielle Changnon and Caroline Quinn each drove in two runs for Bowdoin. Sarah Martin and Amanda Roy each singled for the Monks.

In the second game, Nelson fired a one-hitter with one walks and seven strikeouts. Megan Wyman hit a home run and plated three runs. Deborah Bain singled for St. Joseph’s.

At Gorham Sunday, the Anchorwomen scored two runs in the top of the 11th to edge the Huskies 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. Rhode Island College held off Southern Maine 2-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Casie Lyons and Kristyn Alexander each had RBI singles in the 11th to lift the Anchorwomen, who ended the Huskies’ 13-game winning streak. Jessie Becher tripled and Ashley Woodcock had an RBI single.

In the second game, Alexander’s two-run double in the first was all the offense Rhode Island College needed. Becher had an RBI single for USM.

At Gorham Saturday, Katie Mainville fired a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and one walk as the Huskies picked up a 3-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Warriors. Southern Maine won the second game 5-3.

In the first game, Mainville improved to 12-0. Kristen Tong hit a two-run double in the first and Darci Holland added an RBI single in fifth for USM. Eastern Connecticut managed just two singles.

In the second game, USM scored five runs in the fourth to grab the lead for good. Holland hit a two-run double and Tong chipped in with an RBI double. Shari D’Arico paced the Warriors with a two-run homer.
