Maine receives grants for dislocated workers

WASHINGTON – The Maine Department of Labor has been awarded two National Emergency Grants to help serve workers who have been displaced by layoffs at G.H. Bass & Co., Tyson Foods Inc., Adelphia Communication Corp., American Shoe and Solon Manufacturing, according to U.S. Rep. Michael H. Michaud.

The U.S. Department of Labor awarded an initial National Emergency Grant of $300,536 and up to $731,073 to help assist 116 dislocated workers from G.H. Bass & Co. The second National Emergency Grant of $217,178 and up to $796,320 would help provide approximately 80 dislocated workers from Tyson Foods, Adelphia Communication, American Shoe and Solon Manufacturing with additional assistance.

The grants provide dislocated workers with immediate recruitment, outreach, job assessment, job search assistance, basic skills training and classroom training.
