BLUE HILL – Joe Manzo drove in Greg Cullen on a two-out single in the seventh inning as the Stearns baseball team edged George Stevens Academy 7-6 Tuesday in high school action.

Matt Barnett hit three singles and knocked in three runs for the Minutemen of Millinocket and Manzo had three singles with two RBIs.

Blake Wessel doubled and singled with an RBI for the Eagles and Ross Gallagher hit two singles with an RBI.

At East Machias, Steven Colbeth hit a three-run homer in the second inning and added a triple and a double to help lift Washington Academy past Woodland.

Reo Kawai gave up just one run and one hit while striking out eight for the Raiders. Jason Labonte had a two-run home run in the third inning and hit two singles and Ryan Harmon lined a doubled and hit a pair of singles.

Adam Hunt led off the game with a single for Woodland.

At Lincoln, brothers Wayne and Bryan Berry combined on a five-inning no-hitter and Justin Day belted a grand slam to power Mattanawcook Academy past visiting Schenck of East Millinocket.

Senior Wayne Berry had eight strikeouts and one walk in three innings before sophomore Bryan fanned three and walked one over the final two innings.

Cory Drost had an RBI double.

At East Machias, Tiffany Wormell hit a doubled and two singles to help lead Woodland to the win.

Lacey Gillespie wrapped a pair of singles for the Dragons.

Shellie Hall tripled and Ashley Tilton hit a double for Washington Academy.

At Lincoln, Felicia Ireland and Brooke Leighton each drove in three runs as the Lynx cruised.

Ireland hit two doubles and a single for Mattanawcook and Leighton doubled and singled. Erika Knights hit a double and a single for three RBIs, and Jessica Murchison drove in two runs on three singles. Jordan McCafferty scattered four hits and struck out four in five innings.

Krystal Walsh recorded an RBI single for the Wolverines of East Millinocket.

At Blue Hill, Holly Franck collected three singles, scored three times and drove in two runs as Stearns of Millinocket built a 9-2 lead and withstood a George Stevens rally.

Dayne Somers had a pair of singles and scored three times for Stearns. Katie Jones went the distance for the win, allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Liz Tyler drove in four runs with a triple and a single for George Stevens Academy and Christy Moon contributed two singles and two RBIs.
