BANGOR – Carolyn McAvoy drove in two runs with a pair of hits as Husson College beat the University of Maine-Farmington 4-3 to salvage a split of Thursday’s doubleheader.

UMF won the opener 11-7.

In the first game, Holly Tripp had a two-run single to lead the Beavers to the win.

Mary Berry singled twice and drove in a run, as did Lauren Stacey.

McAvoy went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Braves while Sara Agouab knocked in two.

In the second game, Stacey Wright had a run-scoring single to complement McAvoy.

Berry went 2-for-3 for UMaine-Farmington.

Colby blanks Bates twice

At Waterville, Lauren Olmsted tossed a one-hit shutout in game one and drove in all four of Colby’s runs in game two as the Mules swept Bates, 7-0 and 4-0.

In the opener, Olmsted struck out two and walked four in seven innings of work. Wendy Bonner had a two-run single while Miki Starr doubled and scored twice. Kelley Kugel singled for Bates of Lewiston.

In the nightcap, Olmsted went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs and Bonner added two hits and three runs scored.

Tori-Lynn Robbins pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts.

Huskies sweep Bears

At Brunswick, Southern Maine held Bowdoin to six hits in two games, winning 3-0 and 3-1.

In the opener, Katie Mainville tossed a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts for the Gorham-based Huskies.

Caterina Riitano hit an RBI single and Natasha Jackson added another and scored on an error.

Gillian Stevens and Jayme Woogerd singled for the Polar Bears.

In the second game, Melissa Henderson got the shutout win, scattering four hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Jessie Becher hit an RBI double and Angela Cote added an RBI groundout.

Woogerd registered two singles for Bowdoin while Megan Wyman and Emily Nelson added a single apiece.

At Waterville, the visiting Monks from St. Joseph’s swept the Terriers 7-4 and 2-1.

In the first game, Andy Exley’s two-run double in the first got St. Joe’s started.

Exley added an RBI single later and Ben Muniz collected two singles and three RBIs.

Jim Pierce had two singles and two RBIs to lead Thomas.

In the second game, Mark Clapp and Chris Doughty each had RBI singles to help the Monks get the sweep.

Matt Vasil and Dan Enman combined on a seven-hitter.

Lance Haynes drove in the Terriers’ lone run with a single.
