Black-powder enthusiasts don’t often let chilly weather get in the way of their passion for the sport, but warmer weather can’t help but be appreciated.
The Penobscot Longrifles will hold their monthly black-powder shoot on Sunday at their range in Stetson.
The line shoot begins at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $15 for members or $20 for non-members, and covers a day in the sun, prizes and a hot lunch in the club.
The clubhouse is located on New Sweden Road in Stetson, off Route 143.

Baxter crew delays Earth Day
Though most folks observed Earth Day on Thursday, Baxter State Park officials have scheduled their own “Earth Day” events to coincide with conditions that are more favorable for volunteers.
“The snow doesn’t melt until May,” according to a Baxter State Park press release, and when snow does disappear, cleanup will begin.
The third annual litter patrol is set for May 1. Volunteers are invited to join Baxter State Park staff as they clean up 20 miles of road on the way to the park.
Volunteers will be treated to a barbecue lunch after the cleanup.

Friends of NRA banquet set
The Penobscot County Chapter of Friends of NRA will hold its 5th annual banquet on Saturday, May 8.
The banquet will be held at the Bangor Convention Center on Hogan Road, and will begin at 6 p.m.
This FNRA event supports the NRA Foundation, which has generated more than $60 million in contributions for projects which promote firearms and hunting safety, enhance marksmanship skills and shooting sports and much more.
Half of all proceeds from these events stay in the State of Maine for projects close to home. To date, FNRA funds in Maine have provided needed dollars to send numerous youngsters to conservation summer camps; purchase rifles and gear for junior smallbore shooters; and provide equipment for shotgun marksmanship to support Boy Scouts of America and other groups.
With an on-going lack of support or a low-level of support in Maine for high school shooting teams and youth shooting programs in general, supporting FNRA can provide a means for organizations to initiate or rejuvenate such programs.
To purchase tickets, call Tony Richard at 827-3440 or Charlie Rumsey at 941-8575.
