Economy helps Witches sweep

BREWER – Evan Economy allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight to help Brewer to a 12-2 schoolboy baseball win and a doubleheader sweep over Nokomis Saturday.

The Witches won the opener 7-4.

In the first game, Jeff Miller hit a two-run double in the first inning and also singled for Brewer. Andrew Patterson had a single with two RBIs and Kevin McAvoy also singled with one RBI.

Greg Dile hit a RBI double in the first inning and also singled for Nokomis.

In the second game, Miller tripled and singled with two RBIs for the Witches and J.T. Davis hit a double and a single. Mitch Peasley had a RBI double in the third inning.

Keith Peavey hit a RBI double in the first inning for Nokomis.

At Bar Harbor, Brad Staples hit an RBI double in the sixth to drive in the game-winning run as the Trojans edged the Red Riots.

Jake Willis chipped in with a double for MDI and Andy Pooler allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out seven in the win.

Ryan Levesque recorded an RBI double in the first for Orono.

Ellsworth 9, Sumner 3

At East Sullivan, Nick Putnman hit four singles, drove in five runs, and stole four bases to help lead Ellsworth to the victory.

Ryan Gashlin hit three singles and scored twice for Ellsworth.

Trevor Renwick had three singles and drove in a run for Sumner and Dylan Johnson hit a pair of singles and scored a run.

At Hermon, Billy Bart singled three times and drove in two runs for the Hawks in the win.

Travis Estes had a double, single and scored twice while Brain McGinley added an RBI single for Hermon.

Josh Pelletier doubled, singled and knocked in a run for the Ponies and Josh Withee hit two singles.

At Hampden, Chris Pease hit a pair of doubles and knocked in a run to help lead Hampden to the win over Old Town.

Pat Moran had two singles with two RBIs for Hampden. Blaine Meehan hit a pair of singles with a RBI and Billy Shannon had two singles and scored three runs.

Brian Lonko had two singles to drive in a pair of runs for Old Town.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Keith Nason tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts for the Crusaders in the win.

Brian Roach tripled, singled and knocked in a run for the winners. Dan Myerowitz had pair of RBI singles and Mike Tardiff added two singles.

Curt Smith singled twice for the Red Devils of Cornith.

At Lee, Kelsy Snowman doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs to lead the Dragons over the Pandas.

Kaitlyn Leeman hit four singles and Tiffany Wormell three singles for the winners.

Liz Read had three singles with an RBI for Lee and Kerri Harris added two singles.

At Hampden, Monica Hussey knocked a two-run homer and a double as the Indians outlasted Hampden.

Mallory Dill doubled, singled and drove in three runs for Old Town.

Liz Kiser, Nellie Wood, Lisa Johnson and Hannah Grow singled for the Broncos.

At Hermon, Kristen Oakes pitched a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the Hawks corralled the Ponies.

Marissa MacLeod hit an RBI single and Erica Joy and Ashley Burgess added singles for Hermon.

Randi Campbell had two singles for Foxcroft.

Brewer sweeps Nokomis

At Brewer, Sarah DeFilipp gave up three runs on two hits and one walk while fanning eight to help lead Brewer to a 12-3 win over Nokomis of Newport in the first game. Brewer also won the second game 9-5.

In the first game, DeFilipp tripled and singled with one RBI for the Witches. Amy Freeman had an RBI triple. Christine Thoms and Vanessa Michaud each hit two singles.

In the second game, Thoms hit a double and a single with three RBIs and Michaud also doubled and singled with a RBI. Freeman had two doubles.

Lindsey Welch and Joyce Holland each hit a pair of singles for Nokomis.

At East Sullivan, Victoria Jones hit three singles and knocked in six runs as the Eagles rolled.

Tessa Miller, Emma Risman and Emily Miller each chipped in with an RBI single for Ellsworth. Tara Dyer gave up two hits and struck out five over five innings. The Eagles benefitted from 10 errors, including seven during a snowstorm in the top of the third.

Jody Pinkham doubled and scored three runs, while Whitney Page added a single.
