Santerre opens Busch North defense with victory

LEE, N.H. – Andy Santerre’s quest for a third straight Busch North Series points championship began the same way the last two did.

That would be with a trip to Victory Lane at Lee USA Speedway as he took over the lead midway through the race and never looked back in winning the 150-lap season opener Sunday.

“The car was awesome. We were pretty dominant,” said Santerre, who qualified third. “We tested here a week ago and we weren’t as good as we wanted to be. So we made some changes and we hit the setup [we wanted]. And our pit stop was the best ever.”

Joey McCarthy of Randolph, N.J., was second. Rounding out the top five were Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Mass., 2003 Rookie of the Year Ryan Moore of Scarborough, and Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I.

Scarborough’s Kelly Moore, Ryan’s father, was 12th among the 27 finishers and Yarmouth’s Billy Penfold finished 18th.
