BANGOR – The Levant woman arrested last week with three others on federal drug charges was released from jail Tuesday into the custody of her parents.
Theresa Mayhew, 25, will be reunited with her 21/2-year-old son, but conditions of her release are so stringent that essentially, she will be under house arrest, U.S. Magistrate Judge Margaret Kravchuk said Tuesday.
Mayhew, who has no criminal record, must be with at least one of her parents at all times and can have no contact by mail or phone with anyone without their consent. She also must submit to random drug tests and cannot possess drugs without a prescription, alcohol, firearms or other dangerous weapons.
“You’re in a lot of trouble right now and if you violate any of these conditions, you’ll be in a lot more,” Kravchuk warned her.
A tearful Mayhew agreed to abide by the conditions and was released to her parents on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Dan Perry, the assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case, asked that Mayhew be detained. A report filed with the court by pretrial services, however, recommended her release.
Detention hearings for co-defendants Clifton Davis, 24, of Potecasi, N.C., Kelvin Deloatch, 22, of Woodland, N.C., and Chelsea Andrews, 23, of Brookline, Mass., are scheduled for today in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
All four face the same charges – possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine and could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison and fined up to $1 million on each count.
Bangor police arrested the four Monday night. Members of the department’s Special Enforcement Team and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency allegedly found a pound of cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than $50,000, in the trunk of Mayhew’s car a few minutes after she picked up the others at the Concord Trailways bus station on Union Street.
According to court documents, Mayhew reserved motel rooms in the area where the trio would stay, and then they would sell cocaine out of a residence on Garland Street near Pine Street.
