Swanson helps serve up a win for MDI

MOUNT DESERT – Nick Swanson’s two-run single highlighted a four-run sixth inning gave that gave the Mount Desert Island Trojans an 8-7 baseball win over George Stevens Academy Wednesday.

Brad Staples hit a 3-run homer and doubled for MDI. Andy Pooler added an RBI singel and Marcus Muffuci two singles.

Colin Henry led the Blue Hill-based Eagles with two doubles, a single and three RBIs. Harrison Hines singled twice and drove in a run and Phiners Pea

At Deer Isle, three runs on two hits in the fifth inning helped break the game open for the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners as they kept Sumner of East Sullivan winless.

Terrance O’Dell had the only RBI hit (single) for the Mariners, who scored three in the fifth on two singles, a stolen base, a balk, a walk, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly. Nick Ciomei struck out nine batters and walked four while throwing a five-hitter.

A.J. Pennartz and Andy Allen each had two singles and an RBI.

At East Machias, Jacob Lovington’s run-scoring double in the fourth and Robbie Rogers’ two-run double in the fifth keyed three-run rallies that extended Calais’ lead to 15-8.

Winning pitcher Scott MacDonald fanned 13 over seven innings and helped his own cause with two doubles and a single good for two RBIs.

Scott Geel had three singles and three RBIs, Rick Price doubled and singled and knocked in three more and Russ McLean and John Deacon each singled twice.

Steve Colbeth’s grand slam, James Ramsdell’s two-run homer, two singles and three RBIs and Jeff Ramsdell’s double and single, with one RBI, led Washington Academy.

McLaughlin aided her own cause with two doubles, two singles and two RBIs. Heidi Goodine and Stephanie Burtt each chipped in with a triple and single with Goodine adding an RBI. Kristin Carter doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Jackie Dodge hit a two-run single in the fifth for East Grand.
