Friends of Mark and Pat Leavitt of Newburgh are hosting a benefit spaghetti supper for the couple, who are dealing with Mark’s recovery from an aneurysm that was followed by a stroke and subsequent surgeries.
The 53-year-old Newburgh plumber and highly respected member of that community “is home now, and continuing to recuperate and gain back his speech and movement,” wrote Rosanna Libby, one of the benefit’s organizers.
“It has been a long process,” she said of the efforts by Mark, those involved with his therapy, and family and friends who are doing all they can to assist during this difficult time.
The benefit is 5-7 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Newburgh Elementary School. The event features a live band for entertainment and silent auction.
“It will take lots of helping hands to make this [benefit] work,” Libby wrote, and she urges anyone who would like to be involved or help the Leavitts in any other way to call her at 234-2089.
A grateful couple seeks “a very special man” who was driving the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, 2003, along Route 9, Township 22, wrote Kelly Brown.
That good Samaritan “witnessed a car accident involving my husband and a wall,” she said.
After making sure her husband was safely out of his car, the man left to call for help, then returned and stayed until the ambulance arrived.
During this stressful time, no one got his name, and all the couple knows are “the few things my husband remembers,” she wrote.
He was a middle-aged man driving a full-size beige truck.
“If you are reading, we love and thank you more than we can ever express and would like to meet you,” she said. Call 989-7218 or e-mail kelandkris@aol.com.
Kay Byther Eames, dean of the Bangor chapter of the American Guild of Organists, invites you to the group’s annual Bach Bash at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Orono Methodist Church, 36 Oak St.
There is no admission for this event, featuring area organists playing pieces by J.S. Bach with Dr. David Klocko, dressed as Bach, as master of ceremonies.
For those unaware of the history of the organ at the church, Eames said it is an 1891 Emmons Howard tracker instrument with two manuals and 27 ranks that was restored in 1978.
