Unity Raceway

Deer Isle’s Matt Eaton opened defense of his super sportsman points championship by outdueling Sidney’s Chris Thorne and Jefferson’s Mike Hodgkins to win the 30-lap feature at Unity Raceway Sunday afternoon.

The three were bunched with four laps remaining when Eaton slid to the inside and slipped past Hodgkins, who had led from lap four following a five-car pile-up in turn four.

Thorne edged Hodgkins for second on the last lap.

Thorne and Hodgkins finished second and third in points a year ago.

Corey Williams of Boothbay Harbor earned his first victory in the Wiscasset Speedway Prostock division Sunday, besting Charlie Colby of Newcastle in the 35-lap feature.

Mike Brown of Hope placed third, with John Phippen of Bar Harbor and Shane Lane of Strong completing the top five.

Dan McKeage of Gorham held off Brockie Gerry of Fryeburg over the final three laps to win the 40-lap NASCAR Pro Series feature Sunday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough. Bobby Babb of Windham was third, followed by Rick Frenette of Waterboro and Phil Baril Jr. of Haverhill, Mass.
