Hermon takes two from MDI

HERMON – Phil Cayford hit a triple and single and scored three runs to help lead Hermon past Mount Desert Island 10-2 in the first game of a high school baseball doubleheader Saturday.

Hermon won the second game 7-4.

In the first game, Corey Archer doubled and singled to drive in a pair of runs for Hermon and Billy Bart hit a RBI single.

Justin Garver had a triple and single with a RBI for MDI and Dan Lyons had two singles.

In the second game, at Brewer, David Wilder hit a two-run double in the third inning for Hermon. Nate Ellis and Bart each hit a pair of singles.

Lyons doubled and singled for the Trojans while Jake Willis and Andy Pooler each hit two singles.

Ponies split with Wildcats

At Dover-Foxcroft, Shawn Grass laid down a suicide squeeze for the game-winning RBI as the Ponies won game two of a doubleheader with Presque Isle, 5-4. The Wildcats won the opener, 3-0.

In the second game, Josh Pelletier added a two-run single for Foxcroft in the win.

In the first game, Kyle Gagnon pitched a three-hit shutout for the Wildcats.

Pelletier, Tyler Stakutis and Shawn Grass all singled for the Ponies.

Hampden 17-14, Old Town 2-8

At Old Town, Hampden Academy rallied from a 6-3 first-inning deficit to defeat Old Town in the second game of their doubleheader and finish off a sweep of the Indians.

In the first game, Chris Pease earned the pitching win and added a double and single for Hampden. Pat Moran had a homer and a single, while Kevin Brooks doubled and singled, Danny McLean singled twice and Ian Lee and Billy Shannon each doubled.

David Chilelli doubled for Old Town.

In the second game, Hampden capitalized on eight Old Town errors. Keiichi Sugesawa singled twice for the Broncos, while Pease and Moran each doubled.

Brian Lonko and Brad Perry each doubled and singled for Old Town, while Chilelli doubled.

At Milo, the Howlers rallied in the seventh thanks to Dustin Saucier’s two-run single and Cody Thompson’s RBI single.

Saucier finished with three singles and three RBIs, while Thompson singled twice and drove in two runs for Penobscot Valley of Howland. Ryan Ware also hit two singles and had two RBIs. Joey Cyr fanned nine and walked nine in the win.

Wayne Latti and Brian Salley paced the Patriots with two singles and three RBIs apiece. Garrett Durant chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.

At Corinth, Joey Kane went 7-for-7 with three doubles, four singles and 12 RBIs to lead Central to the 21-7 win in the first game and the 28-4 win in the second game.

In the first game, Tristan Strout hit a two-run home run, a double and a single with three RBIs for Central and Mike Julian had two singles.

Pat Jamo homered, doubled, and singled with five RBIs for Schenck of East Millinocket and Jordan Pelkey hit a double and two singles.

In the second game, Julian hit a three run home run for Central. Anthony Lancisi had two singles with three RBIs and Strout had two singles with two RBIs.

Pelkey hit a solo home run in the first inning and Luke Petrin doubled for Schenck.

At Hermon, Kristen Oakes pitched a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts as Hermon won the first game of a doubleheader, 4-0. Mount Desert Island came back to win the second game 10-8.

In the first game, Shannon Wiggin had three singles and two RBIs to give Oakes plenty of support. Marissa McLeod added a pair of singles.

In the second game, Ashley Burgess led the Hawks with a double, four singles and three RBIs. Wiggin added two singles and a double.

Presque Isle sweeps Foxcroft

At Dover-Foxcroft, Katie Delong hit a double and two singles to drive in a pair of runs and lead Presque Isle past Foxcroft Academy 19-12 in the first game. The Wildcats won the second game 20-1.

In the first game, Randi Kennedy hit two home runs and a single to knock in five runs for Foxcroft Academy and Sami Hall had a double and three singles with two RBIs.

In the second game, Ashley Marden hit an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Ponies.

Indians sweep Broncos

At Old Town, the Indians limited Hampden to three hits in two games, getting a pair of wins, 3-0 and 7-1.

In the first game, Marcia Hussey pitched a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts.

Allison Gallant had two singles with an RBI and Jamie Gomm added an RBI single for Old Town. Evan Hudspeth, Jenna Shue and Erika Bubar each singled for the Broncos.

In the second game, Gomm pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks as Old Town picked up the sweep.

Monica Hussey and Mallory Dill each had two-run singles for the Indians and Shaylee Moulton singled twice and knocked in a run.

At Corinth, Alyssa Libby pitched a no-hitter in the opening game of Central’s doubleheader sweep.

Libby faced the miminum 15 batters in the five-inning game, as the only batter to reach base – via a walk – was thrown out trying to steal.

Jen Rollins had a homer, two singles and two RBIs for the Red Devils, Jen Griffiths had a homer, single and two RBIs. Shawna Bell doubled twice and drove in five runs, while Lindsay Mitchell had a double, single and two RBIs.

In the second game, Traci Underhill had five singles, a double and five RBIs for Central. Renee Trafton had three singles, a double and six RBIs, while Bell added three doubles, a single and three RBIs.

Nicole Crocker had a solo homer and an RBI single for Schenck.

At Milo, Dani Graves allowed just five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out 10 to help Penquis to the win.

Erika Morrill doubled and singled to drive in four runs for the Patriots and Michelle Mulherin added three singles. Mindy Dolley hit a pair of singles and Ashley McMahon had a double and an RBI.

Tiffany Brown singled to drive in a run for Penobscot Valley of Howland.
