Everyone associated with the University of Maine Center on Aging in Orono and Eastern Agency on Aging in Bangor is excited about “A Celebration of Generations,” a gala fund-raiser for programs of those two agencies.
I know that because Carol Higgins of EAA called me several weeks ago to make sure I was aware that this third annual event features not only the live music of the Moon Puppies, but also showcases the talents of the Zoot Suit Revue dance team.
“Celebration of Generations” is 8-11:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Bangor Elks Club on Odlin Road.
Tickets are $15 per couple, $10 for individuals, and can be purchased at the door.
As band members take their breaks, attendees will enjoy colorful, period-costumed dances that span generations, as demonstrated by members of the Revue, who volunteer their time to help raise funds for other nonprofit organizations.
The Zoot Suit Revue was formed five years ago by Back Door Dance Studio owners Chuck and Sue McKay of Eddington and, in fact, is a perfect example of “A Celebration of Generations” since the dancers range from students to older adults.
Proceeds from the dance will benefit MCA and EAA programs and activities for older adults. The dance also is a way to celebrate May as Older Americans Month.
More information on this event, or the organizations, is available by calling 581-3444 or 941-2865, or by visiting www.umaine.edu/mainecenteronaging or www.eaaa.org.
