Daniel leads Central past rival Dexter 8-3

CORINTH – Nicole Daniel singled three times and drove in two runs as the Central softball team knocked off rival Dexter 8-3 Monday afternoon in high school action.

Chantel Randall singled twice, driving in two runs for the Red Devils, who also beat the Tigers 8-3 in the 2003 Eastern Maine Class C softball final but lost to Dexter in both the regional field hockey and basketball finals this year. Central’s Tracy Underhill added two singles and a triple.

Dexter’s Brittany Veazie doubled twice with two RBIs and Sarah Wyman had a single and a triple.

MDI 6, Hampden 5

At Hampden, Stephanie Schuster had two singles and an RBI to lead the Trojans past the Broncos.

Nia Megquier struck out six, walked four and allowed seven hits.

Jenna Shue had three singles and two RBIs for Hampden. Evon Hudspeth added a run-scoring single. Erika Veinote pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking six.

Mattanawcook 14, PVHS 7

At Lincoln, Shannon Pietras rapped three singles as the Lynx prevailed in a game shortened by rain.

Chelsey NiCastro added a double and a single for Mattanawcook, and Heather Gulesian doubled.

Tiffany Brown hit a solo home run to power Penobscot Valley of Howland. Ashley Dawson singled twice.

At Guilford, Kerri Harris recorded three singles and drove in two runs to lead the Pandas past the Pirates.

Michaela Ham singled twice and drove in three runs for the winners.

Sharron Knight had a single and a double for the Pirates. Pam Bailey added another single and an RBI.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Megan Scofield hit three singles and drove in four runs as the Crusaders of Bangor rolled.

Rachel Stearns drove in two runs on two RBIs, while Kim Meagher added three singles. Gwen Wadleigh scattered three hits and struck out eight.

Sarah Anderson, Randi Kennedy and Ashley Marden each singled for the Ponies.

At Jonesport, Steph Penney hurled a three-hitter over five innings and aided her own cause with two homers, a double and three RBIs as the Blue Devils rolled.

Jessica Whittaker had three singles, Emily Wilkinson doubled and Jamie Doliber had a single and three RBIs for the winners.

Sarah and Tina Beal and Rachel Church had singles for the Royalettes.

At Machias, Stephanie Whitman’s two-run single capped a seven-run fifth inning and gave Machias a win in a rain-shortened game.

Katie Stevens, Whitney Baker and Lindsay Marshall had RBI singles for Machias.

Alisa Tenney doubled and singled and drove in three runs for Narraguagus of Harrington and Elise Dublin contributed two singles and two RBIs.

Hampden 5, MDI 4

At Hampden, Chris Pease had a two-run double and a single and Ian Lee had a pair of run-scoring singles as the Broncos survived a Trojan rally in the seventh.

Jason Huntley allowed four hits and two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings before Dan MacLean came on to get the final out with runners on first and third. Blaine Meehan had two singles for Hampden.

Andy Pooler had two singles for MDI and Tim Buell had an RBI single in the sixth.

At Corinth, Tristan Strout pounded out a three-run triple in the fourth as the Red Devils earned the win.

Joey Kane had a single, a double and three RBI, while Matt Julian had a single and a triple.

Chris Rabideau contributed a single, a double and an RBI for the Tigers. Tim McCarthy had a double and an RBI.

At Guilford, Tyler Thompson and Kris King each drove in three runs the propel the Pandas past the Pirates.

Thompson and King each had a double. King added two singles.

At Milo, Adam Qualey and Ryan Bouchard combined on a five-inning no-hitter to lift the Minutemen of Millinocket.

Qualey struck out three in three innings, and Bouchard had three strikeouts in the final two. Matt Barnett led Stearns with two doubles and two RBIs, while George Surette drove in two runs on two singles.

Qualey and Bouchard walked three.

Gabe Checker had three doubles and two RBIs and Saben Rossi singled twice.

At Jonesport, Scott Geel had three doubles and two RBIs to help lead the Calais Blue Devils past Jonesport-Beals.

Ricky Price had a double and two singles for the Devils while Nick Reynolds added a two-run double. Russ McLean notched the win after taking the mound in relief in the first.

Martin Martinelli had two singles, a double and one RBI for the Royals. Abraham Beal had two doubles and two RBIs.
