Bangor police arrested a man Sunday afternoon after noticing his hand-drawn inspection sticker.
Officer James Dearing reported that at about 5 p.m. he and Officer Steve Jordan were leaving a gas station on State Street when they noticed a car, also leaving the gas station, that had a handmade inspection sticker on the windshield.
The driver, Raymond Day, 38, of Bangor, told the officers he made the sticker to get the 1984 Toyota Camry on the road.
Day admitted he had no license.
He had glassy eyes and slurred speech, Dearing said, but did not smell of alcohol. Day admitted he was feeling “relaxed” after taking Flexeril, a muscle relaxant, and Klonopin, an anti-seizure medication, an hour and a half earlier.
Day was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence, operating without a license, and use of a counterfeit certificate of inspection. He was not admitted to Penobscot County Jail, Dearing said, because he claimed to have broken ribs. Dearing photographed and then released Day.
A Bangor woman was charged with assaulting her boyfriend Sunday night.
Officer Dennis Townsend reported that at about 11:30 p.m. he and Officer Brad Hanson went to a convenience store on State Street for an assault complaint. They met a man who told them his girlfriend, Megan McGraw, 19, of Bangor, punched him repeatedly for an hour, for no reason, after he came home from a fishing trip. She was intoxicated at the time, he said.
Townsend said that when Hanson asked McGraw if she assaulted the man, she said, “Yes, because he [made me angry].” She began to walk away, the officer said, ignoring orders to stop. She then turned and said, “If you touch me I’ll kill you.”
McGraw allegedly tried to punch Hanson, but Townsend restrained her. They put her on the ground, Townsend said, and handcuffed her. Once she was in the cruiser, Townsend said, she kicked at the rear window.
McGraw was charged with domestic assault and criminal mischief.
