Shuster, Megquier lead Trojans to win

HAMPDEN – Stephanie Shuster rapped two singles and drove in a run to lead the MDI softball team to a 6-5 victory over Hampden Monday in high school action.

Nia Megquier struck out six, walked four and allowed seven hits for the Trojans.

Jenna Shue had three singles and two RBIs for Hampden. Evon Hudspeth added a run-scoring single. Erika Veinote pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking six.

At Jonesport, Steph Penney hurled a three-hitter over five innings and aided her own cause with two homers, a double and three RBIs as the Blue Devils rolled.

Jessica Whittaker had three singles, Emily Wilkinson doubled and Jamie Doliber had a single and three RBIs for the winners.

Sarah and Tina Beal and Rachel Church had singles for the Royalettes.

At Machias, freshman Stephanie Whitman’s two-run single capped a seven-run fifth inning that erased an 11-6 deficit and gave Machias a win in a rain-shortened game.

Katie Stevens, Whitney Baker and Lindsay Marshall had run-scoring singles for Machias.

Alisa Tenney doubled and singled and drove in three runs for Narraguagus of Harrington and Elise Dublin contributed two singles and two RBIs.

At Lincoln, Shannon Pietras rapped three singles as the Lynx prevailed in a game shortened by rain.

Chelsey NiCastro added a double and a single for Mattanawcook, and Heather Gulesian doubled.

Tiffany Brown hit a solo home run to power Penobscot Valley of Howland. Ashley Dawson singled twice.

At Guilford, Kerri Harris recorded three singles and drove in two runs to lead the Pandas past the Pirates.

Michaela Ham singled twice and drove in three runs for the winners.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Megan Scofield hit three singles and drove in four runs as the Crusaders of Bangor rolled.

Rachel Stearns drove in two runs on two RBIs, while Kim Meagher added three singles. Gwen Wadleigh scattered three hits and struck out eight.

Sarah Anderson, Randi Kennedy and Ashley Marden each singled for the Ponies.

At Machias, Zack McNally, Chase Ross, and Austin Roberts each had a double and a single to lead the Bulldogs.

Thomas Buck had five strikeouts and two walks while pitching a six-hitter.

Gabe Checker had three doubles and two RBIs and Saben Rossi singled twice.

At Jonesport, Scott Geel had three doubles and two RBIs to help lead the Calais Blue Devils past Jonesport-Beals.

Ricky Price had a double and two singles for the Devils while Nick Reynolds added a two-run double. Russ McLean notched the win after taking the mound in relief in the first.

Martin Martinelli had two singles, a double and one RBI for the Royals. Abraham Beal had two doubles and two RBIs.

At Hampden, Chris Pease had a two-run double and a single and Ian Lee had a pair of run-scoring singles as the Broncos survived a Trojan rally in the seventh.

Jason Huntley allowed four hits and two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings before Dan MacLean came on to get the final out with runners on first and third. Blaine Meehan had two singles for Hampden.

Andy Pooler had two singles for MDI and Tim Buell had an RBI single in the sixth.

At Milo, Adam Qualey and Ryan Bouchard combined on a five-inning no-hitter to lift the Minutemen of Millinocket.

Qualey struck out three in three innings, and Bouchard had three strikeouts in the final two. Matt Barnett led Stearns with two doubles and two RBIs, while George Surette drove in two runs on two singles.

Qualey and Bouchard walked three.
