Babin lifts Fort Kent by Caribou in eighth

CARIBOU – Leah Babin smacked an RBI double in the eighth inning to give the Fort Kent Warriors a 14-13 high school softball victory over the Caribou Vikings Wednesday.

Babin added another double and two singles, and finished with two RBIs. Shannon Morneault doubled, singled and drove in a pair for Fort Kent.

Christy Zbylut paced the Vikings with a two-run single. Makayla Gahagan singled three times and doubled and Billie Martin singled twice.

At Dyer Brook, Audrey Charette led a 19-hit attack with three doubles, two singles, and seven RBIs for the Southern Aroostook Warriors.

Kaylea Collier had two triples, a single, and five RBIs for the Warriors. Carmen McLaughlin had two doubles, a single and three RBIs.

Brittany Lundeen had two singles for the Panthers of Mars Hill. Alicia Rideout and Andi Long each doubled.

At Van Buren, after two straight errors put runners at second and third, Lance Smith scored them both for the tying and winning runs with a single up the middle.

Smith had a double, two singles and three RBIs for the Crusaders. Dustin Cyr had a double, single, and RBI; Matt Gagnon doubled and singled; and Chris Gagnon and Andrew Taylor each singled twice.

Jacob Kenneson had a double, two singles and an RBI for the Tigers. Brandon Skull doubled and singled and Jesse Sayers singled twice.

At Mars Hill, Peter Gerard’s run-scoring double capped a two-run ninth inning that gave Madawaska its win.

Gerard had two singles to go with his double, Andre Roy had two singles and Billy Roy tripled.

Adam Crew hit a game-tying solo homer in the seventh for Central Aroostook, Jeff Clockedile singled twice and had an RBI and Bryan Grew tripled.

At Calais, Jason Francis’ one-out double in the top of the eighth scored Derek Maloney from second with the winning run.

Maloney, who singled and stole second in the eighth, also pitched a three-hitter and walked just one batter for the Tigers of Eastport.

Scott Macdonald’s RBI single with two outs in the sixth provided the Calais run. Scott Geel took the loss despite pitching a three-hitter as well.

Josh Ireland’s two singles and RBI and Matt Cummings’ RBI double paced Penobscot Valley of Howland and Cody Thompson hurled a three-hitter.
