GORHAM – Christen Lachappelle, Jessie Becher and Angela Cote each had RBI doubles in a three-run second inning Tuesday as the University of Southern Maine beat Emerson College 5-1 in an ECAC Tournament game.

The Huskies advance to the four-team, double-elimination portion of the tourney to be played Saturday and Sunday.

Melissa Henderson scattered four hits and struck out nine for Southern Maine while Darci Holland doubled and singled.

Laura Burke singled and scored for Emerson.

At Standish, the Huskies scored twice in the eighth to break a 2-2 deadlock.

Nick Vardaro singled three times for the University of Southern Maine of Gorham, while Tip Fairchild homered and singled to back relief winner Sam Handy (7 strikeouts).

Matt Prunier singled twice for Saint Joseph’s.
